After Minamoto Yoritomo died, Tokimasa forced Yoritomo’s son, Yoriie, to retire from the position, after which Tokimasa gained substantial power.\n Studies on the formation of the Kamakura Shogunate have progressed since the 1980s. To date, it has been though that the Hojo clan cooperated to expand power. However, a new perspective on the politics of the early Kamakura period was most likely assumed when Tokimasa’s intention and behavior was distinguished from that of Yoshitoki and Masako.
