The Building the Curriculum (BtC) series provides practical guidelines for CfE and a concept of \"active learning\". This article outlines a curriculum transformation in the early stages and some measures to support continuity between preschool and the first year of primary school (P1) and beyond in Scotland. While increased attention was paid to literacy and numeracy in the 1999 curriculum for ages 3-5, BtC2 in 2007 underlined the high priority of \"active learning\" including purposeful play.
