Both theories contain some elements of legal positivism, deploying the so-called \"command theory of law.\" However, a close examination reveals that both philosophers have certain characteristics as natural lawyers. While natural law in Hobbes is related to moral law, which is faithful to the traditions of classical natural law theory, Spinoza's natural law is devoid of normative elements and has a genuinely descriptive character.
